Jared Wright

According to his parents, Jared Wright could dance before he could walk, so his mother soon took him to the local dance school in Brisbane, Australia. The school taught mainly jazz and tap dance, but Jared says that as a child he was already thinking more along the lines of classical ballet. When he was fourteen, he was accepted for The Australian Ballet School in Melbourne. Following his training, he danced with The Australian Ballet and Queensland Ballet, only to decide after two and a half years that he wanted to see more of the world. After a stopover in Berlin, he ended up in Amsterdam in 2010, after his dance teacher advised him to audition for Dutch National Ballet.

Jared started with Dutch National Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet, but after only a year and a half he was promoted to coryphée. He went on to dance solo roles in works like Paquita, Cinderella, Ted Brandsen’s Carmen and William Forsythe’s The Second Detail. In the young talent programme Sterrenstof (Stardust), he performed the role of Count Albrecht in Giselle, which led to his promotion to grand sujet in 2013.

In 2014, Jared returned to his native country to perform as a guest dancer with The Dancers Company. After two years, he traded Australia for Amsterdam again, where he rejoined Dutch National Ballet as a soloist. Shortly after his return from Australia, he created the ballet Loud for the annual choreography workshop New Moves.

The British dance magazine Dance Europe nominated Jared in October 2020 in its Critics’ Choice, in the category ‘Outstanding performance by a male dancer’.
