Asmae Amaddaou

Writer

Asmae Amaddaou (2001) is a writer, spoken word artist, bookworm, football fan, and people-lover. She graduated from the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU) in 2023. Her graduation thesis Dirou Niya explored the representation of ‘brown’ stories and characters in Dutch film and television. Her final project, Reporting Live From The Other Side, was a multifaceted love letter to the residents of a social housing flat somewhere in the Randstad, touching on themes such as poverty, childhood trauma, femininity, queerness, and brotherly love.

In both her writing and research, she dives into subjects ranging from the Moroccan national football team, vulnerability, intersectional feminism, baklava, and Volkswagen Polos to God. She sees her love for storytelling as a gift from God – one she hopes to use to make the world a slightly softer place.

She has performed at stages including the Netherlands Film Festival, Mensen Zeggen Dingen, and the Vrouwejaarsconferentie.
