Alejandro Cantalapiedra

Musical direction

Alejandro Cantalapiedra studied orchestral conducting under Juan María Esteban del Pozo and Miguel Romea in Madrid, before moving to the Netherlands to continue his education at Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam. He started assisting at Dutch National Opera in 2022, providing support in the productions of Salome, Königskinder and Der Freischütz, and has been appointed junior assistant conductor to Lorenzo Viotti at Dutch National Opera and the Netherlands Philharmonic with effect from the 2023/24 season. In the autumn of 2022, Cantalapiedra made his debut at The Concertgebouw concert hall in Amsterdam with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra and the Toonkunstkoor Amsterdam choir. Here, he also features regularly as a choirmaster. He has served as chief conductor of the Utrecht Young Orchestra since 2019.
