Aldert Vermeulen

Conductor / assistant conductor

Aldert Vermeulen’s musical training started with learning to play the piano, violin and organ. After graduating from the Amsterdam Conservatoire, he became assistant conductor to Christian Thielemann at the Bayreuth Festival. He has also worked with conductors including Jaap van Zweden, Riccardo Chailly, Sir Colin Davis and Gennady Rozhdestvensky. He has performed as a guest conductor with orchestras in the Netherlands and abroad, such as Orkest van het Oosten, the Residentie Orkest in The Hague, Noord Nederlands Orkest, the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, Opera Zuid, the Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic and Philharmonie Essen. From 2009 to 2013, Vermeulen was the artistic director of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra. He was a member of the staff of Dutch National Opera from 2006 to 2011, and has been an assistant conductor here since 2013.
