Wijnand van der Horst

Lighting

Wijnand van der Horst (1971) works as a lighting designer in disciplines such as dance, opera, drama, music theatre and architecture. He also provides lighting designs for museums and creates his own light art.

Van der Horst started his career as a freelance lighting technician and went on to develop as a designer – partly through his close collaboration with various (international) lighting designers, directors and choreographers with Dutch National Opera and Dutch National Ballet.

He followed a two-year coaching course at the Instituut Lichtontwerpen, founded by lighting designer Henk van der Geest, in order to deepen the content of his designs and thus broaden his field of work. Since then, Van der Horst has created the lighting designs for various opera, ballet and theatre productions, events and exhibitions. His designs have been commissioned by Centraal Museum Utrecht, O. Festival (Opera Days Rotterdam), Dutch National Ballet and Dutch National Opera, among others.
