Yulia Matochkina

Mezzo-soprano

The Russian mezzo-soprano Yulia Matochkina gained international recognition after winning the Tchaikovsky Competition in St. Petersburg in 2015. Major roles followed, among others at the Bolshoi Theatre, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and at festivals in Edinburgh, Verbier and Salzburg, where she sang the role of Federica in a concert performance of Verdi’s Luisa Miller. Recently, she made several house debuts in the United States, amongst others as Venus in Wagner’s Tannhäuser at Los Angeles Opera, as Maddalena in Verdi’s Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera New York and as Ulrica in Un ballo in maschera with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of maestro Riccardo Muti. She sang the role of Ulrica as well as her debut with Teatro alla Scala earlier this season.
