Baritone Thomas Johannes Mayer studied in Cologne with soprano Liselotte Hammes and bass Kurt Moll. Guest engagements brought him to the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro alla Scala, La Monnaie, Bavarian State Opera Munich, l’Opéra national de Paris, New National Theater Tokyo and the Royal Opera House, among others, as well as to the opera festivals in Bregenz, Bayreuth and Salzburg. His repertoire includes not only the great Strauss and Wagner roles, but also Moses in Arnold Schönberg’s Moses und Aron and Mizguir in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Snow Maiden. Mayer has worked with well-known conductors such as Daniel Barenboim, Semyon Bychkov, Daniele Gatti, Philippe Jordan, Zubin Mehta, Sir Simon Rattle and Simone Young. In season 2023/2024 he also sings the role of Friedrich von Telramund in Wagner's Lohengrin at Dutch National Opera, where he previously performed the role of Wotan/Der Wanderer in Der Ring des Nibelungen (2012, 2013 and 2014).

Thomas Johannes Mayer sings the roles of Dreieinigkeitsmoses in Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny and Friedrich von Telramund in Lohengrin in season 2023/2024.
