Milena Sidorova

Young Creative Associate

Milena Sidorova (born in Ukraine, but now a Dutch national) has been dancing with Dutch National Ballet since 2005, and from 2013 in the rank of grand sujet. At the age of thirteen, she created the hit solo The Spider, which has been performed all over the world and had more than 15 million views on YouTube.

Sidorova has now choreographed over 25 works. Nearly every year since 2007, she has created striking works for New Moves, Dutch National Ballet’s choreographic workshop, and she choreographed Withdrawn in 2017 for Dutch National Ballet’s Junior Company. She received international acclaim for her works SAND and A.I., which were presented at Lowlands in 2018 and, one year later, at the Royal Opera House in London – after being selected for the International Draft Works. In 2019, Sidorova was invited to take up a prestigious fellowship in New York, and on commission from Dutch National Opera she did the choreography for the award-winning children’s production Tickle.

During the first corona lockdown in the Netherlands, in 2020, Sidorova used Zoom to collaborate with Dutch National Ballet dancers on creating Hold On, set to the number of the same name by the Dutch band DI-RECT. The video of the piece has now had more than 100,000 views on YouTube. In 2020, she also made Reset, for Dutch National Ballet’s programme Dancing Apart Together. In the summer of 2020, Sidorova was involved as an adviser for DUNE, a big Hollywood film to be released in the Netherlands in the autumn of 2021.

At the beginning of 2021, Sidorova was appointed Young Creative Associate with Dutch National Ballet. In this position she created the dance film Rose, as a part of the programme Young Creatives, and the choreography Bloom for the Junior Company tour Shooting Stars, which took place in May of 2022. The opening performance of season 2022-2023, Shadows, featured the world premiere of Regnum by Milena Sidorova.
