Sam Carl

Bass-baritone

The bass-baritone Sam Carl was a member of Dutch National Opera Studio from 2019 to 2021. Since then, his singing roles have included Colline in La bohème (Staatstheater Darmstadt), Nick Shadow in The Rake’s Progress and Leporello in Don Giovanni (Glyndebourne Festival), the title role in Massenet’s Don Quichotte (Bregenzer Festspiele), Panthée in Les Troyens (Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich), Mephistopheles, Evil Spirit and Pater Profundus in Schumann’s Szenen aus Goethes Faust (Opera Vlaanderen) and Stárek in Jenůfa (Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía). He has previously returned to Dutch National Opera for performances in Ändere die Welt and as Der Holzhacker in Die Königskinder. 

Sam Carl will sing the role of  Talpa (Il tabarro) and Betto di Signa (Gianni Schicchi) in Il trittico in May 2024 at Dutch National Opera.
