Frederik Bergman


During the 2022/2023 season, Dutch bass-baritone Frederik Bergman appears as Zuniga in Carmen, Koning Pygmalion in Operetta Land, Achilla in Giulio Cesare, and Mr. Pilkinson in Raskatov’s Animal Farm at The Dutch National Opera. He will also perform Don Fernando in Fidelio at Nederlandse Reisopera Enschede and is re-engaged to sing the first officer in The Death of Kinghoffer by John Adams at Amsterdam Concertgebouw, which will be conducted by the composer in 2023. Bergman’s recent highlights include Masetto in Don Giovanni, Lord Rochefort in Donizetti’s Anna Bolena and the first soldier in Strauss’s Salome on the stage of the Dutch National Opera. He also returned to Amsterdam Concertgebouw as Cirillo in Fedora for the ZaterdagMatinee. Other engagements include Jacob Epstein in the world premiere of Ritratto by Willem Jeths, which was directed by Marcel Sijm and conducted by Geoffrey Paterson, Rossini’s Petite messe solennelle for Dutch National Opera, and his debut at Amsterdam Concertgebouw as Stárek in Jenufa with the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra under Patrick Lange. Other appearances include Priester and Geharnischter in Die Zauberflöte at Opera Zuid, Alcindoro in La Bohème (pocket version), Masetto in Don Giovanni and in a concert series for De Nederlandse Reisopera. 

In concert, Bergman has appeared in Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, Bach’s John Passion, Requiem by Mozart and Bruckner’s Requiem and Te Deum. He was a member of the Dutch National Opera Studio from 2019 to 2021. Bergman was also a participant and scholarship holder of the Wagnerfestival/Bayreuther Festspiele.
