Sophie de Lint appointed as director of Dutch National Opera

The Supervisory Board of Dutch National Opera & Ballet is very pleased to announce that Sophie de Lint (1974) will succeed Pierre Audi as director of Dutch National Opera as of 1 September 2018. She will also become a member of the board of directors of Dutch National Opera & Ballet.

De Lint is currently artistic director of the Zurich Opera. She began her tenure at the Zurich Opera in 2009 as artistic director designate taking office in 2012 under intendant Andreas Homoki. The Zurich Opera was chosen Opera Company of the Year 2014 (International Opera Awards), in only the second season under the new administration.
Sophie de Lint was born in Rotterdam and holds Dutch Citizenship. Growing up in Geneva, she studied violin at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève and completed a degree in business administration at Webster University. She subsequently graduated from the Executive Master of Arts Administration course at the University of Zurich.

Her career has involved numerous artistic and management responsibilities in opera. She began at the Grand Théâtre de Genève as personal assistant to intendant Renée Auphan, soon becoming artistic coordinator. She has been engaged as an assistant stage director in various opera houses and festivals including the Bayreuth Festival, New National Theatre Tokyo, Wiener Volksoper and Opéra de Marseille. As an impresario she has worked for artist agencies in Vienna and Zurich where she specialized in discovering and developing the careers of young singers, conductors and stage directors. She is regularly invited to serve on juries of international singing competitions and has recently joined the board of Opera Europa.
