Farewell to Anu Viheriäranta and Jurgita Dronina

In 2005, Anu Viheriäranta left Finland for Amsterdam to join the company as a soloist. In 2010, the year she won the Alexandra Radius Prize, she was promoted to principal. In September, Anu will start her new career as stage manager with our company. Jurgita Dronina, who has been dancing as a principal with Dutch National Ballet since 2010, will be joining the National Ballet of Canada in Toronto as a principal at the start of next season.

Ted Brandsen, director of Dutch National Ballet:

“Anu Viheriäranta joined our company ten years ago and stood out for her fragile appearance, her total commitment to new creations and her personal, intelligent and intense interpretations of the great classical roles. Her dramatic Juliet is engraved on my mind forever. Unfortunately, a serious, protracted injury has prompted her decision to follow early retraining for her next career. Although we will greatly miss Anu on stage, I am very happy that she will remain involved with our company and I look forward to our continued collaboration”.

“I am proud of the fact that Jurgita has danced with our company for five years and has had such artistic success. The many leading roles she has danced here earned her the ‘Zwaan’ award for ‘most impressive dance achievement’ and the Alexandra Radius Prize. She will undoubtedly face new and exciting challenges with the National Ballet of Canada, a company with which we have a good relationship. I wish her great success there”.
