Tomasz Konieczny

The Polish bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny studied singing at the academies of Warsaw and Dresden. His international breakthrough came when he was with Vienna State Opera, a company with which he still has close connections. He has sung at prestigious venues such as the Metropolitan Opera in New York, Teatro alla Scala in Milan, Bayerische Staatsoper, the Paris Opera, Zurich Opera House and the Bayreuth Festival. His most important roles include Wotan/Wanderer in Wagner’s Ring, Jochanaan in Salome, the title role in Der fliegende Holländer and Pizarro in Beethoven’s Fidelio. His performances in the 2024-25 season include Jochanaan in Vienna, the Holländer in Zurich and Hamburg, Don Pizarro at the Metropolitan Opera, and his role debut as Boris Godunov here in Amsterdam. He also performs as a concert singer, with a wide repertoire ranging from Bach to Penderecki.
