Dutch National Opera: nomination for Gurre-Lieder
Dutch National Opera’s production of Gurre-Lieder has been nominated for an International Opera Award 2015 in the category ‘New Production’. The International Opera Awards (known as ‘The Operas’) is an initiative of the English magazine ‘Opera’. The nominations for the International Opera Awards 2015 were announced on Wednesday 15 January 2015. Everyone can cast their vote in this category on the International Opera Awards website.
In the category ‘New Production’, Dutch National Opera is competing against Opernhaus Zürich (Alcina), Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (Ariodante), English National Opera (Benvenuto Cellini), Birmingham Opera Company (Khovanskygate) and Metropolitan Opera (Prince Igor, directed by Pierre Audi). In 2013, DNO won the award for best new production with The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia. In May, Dutch National Opera is presenting a new production of Benvenuto Cellini, directed by Terry Gilliam.
The Dutch director Lotte de Beer has been nominated in the category ‘Newcomer’. She has previously directed the production Ringetje (2012) for The Amsterdam Music Theatre and Waiting for Miss M. (2012) for Dutch National Opera. Operadagen Rotterdam has been nominated in the category ‘Festival’.
