Mezzo-soprano

Estonian mezzo-soprano Kai Rüütel is an alumna of the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag, the Dutch National Opera Academy, and the prestigious Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden. She has recently performed roles such as Fricka in Die Walküre (Theater Dortmund), Wellgunde in Götterdämmerung (Opéra national de Paris), Lyubasha in The Tsar’s Bride and the title role in Carmen (Estonian National Opera), Zweite Dame in Die Zauberflöte (Opéra national de Paris and Theater an der Wien), and Mary in Der fliegende Holländer (Teatro Real Madrid). She has worked with directors such as Robert Carsen, Laurent Pelly, Keith Warner and Calixto Beito as well as conductors such as Vladimir Jurowski and Dennis Russel Davies. At Dutch National Opera she last sung the role of Waltraute in Wagner’s Die Walküre (2019).
