Thomas van Dun

Composer

Thomas van Dun (The Hague, 1995) is a contemporary composer and visual artist. He studied composition with Martijn Padding, Yannis Kyriakides, and Calliope Tsoupaki at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, and with Dai Fujikura at the Royal College of Music in London.

In recent years, Van Dun has written works for various ensembles and symphony orchestras, and his music has been performed by, among others, Asko|Schönberg, the Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Philharmonic, the Residentie Orkest, and at the opening of the 2018 Olympic Games. His most successful works include In Transit (2021), Light Mass (2022), and Rocailles de l’après-vie…, which premiered in 2023 at the Concertgebouw, performed by Asko|Schönberg under the direction of Bas Wiegers. In 2024, Van Dun received the first prize at the 70th International Rostrum of Composers for this work, as well as the Keep an Eye Foundation Production Prize for Tomorrow, Tomorrow, and Tomorrow. In the same year, he also won the NTR program Project Rembrandt, after which his final painting was exhibited at the Rijksmuseum and the Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
