Exciting story
Create your own version of the ballet The Nutcracker and the Mouse King in only one afternoon. This famous fairytale ballet with music by Tchaikovsky tells the story of Clara, who receives a Nutcracker doll as a gift on 'Sinterklaas' Eve. When Clara goes to sleep, she dances with the Nutcracker in her dream. But then they are attacked by the Mouse King and his army of mice. Clara and her Nutcracker manage to escape via a magic lantern. They end up in a magical world and travel along distant countries...
The ballet Cinderella tells the story of Cinderella, set to beautiful music by Prokofiev. The version danced by the Dutch National Ballet since 2012 adds modern touches to the story, making Cinderella take her fate even more into her own hands.
Introduction to ballet
During this workshop, the children bring the story to life together. In a short time, they get to know the various aspects of ballet: from practising to empathising and from fitting costumes to presenting to music. For those who want to, there are pointe shoes to try out for themselves!
Theatre lights and costumes
The workshop takes place in of the studios of Dutch Nationale Opera & Ballet, with lights and costumes. The children will be guided by a professional dance teacher.
Practical information
Age: The workshop is offered in a version for children aged 4 to 6 and in a version for children aged 6 to 12.
Duration: Approximately two hours
Costs: € 300 (weekday) / € 375 (weekend) for max. 15 children
The cost includes a drink (more extensive treats: price on request)
Clothing: For this workshop it is important that the children bring their own training or gym clothes.

In an afternoon, create an opera about a young prince who just can't seem to get the laughs.
For children from 6 to 12 years old.

This workshop introduces children to the art form of opera through a special story of a prince and three oranges.
Create your own short opera
In a short time, the children create a short opera under the guidance of a workshop teacher, leaving plenty of room for their own ideas. All aspects of opera are covered: acting, singing, directing and presenting. At the end of the workshop, all the texts, songs and tableaux come together and suddenly a performance is created... with parents or supervisors as the audience!
Stage lighting and costumes
The workshop takes place in a National Opera & Ballet studio with lights and costumes. A singing & acting teacher and a pianist accompany the children in this musical theatre adventure.

De guided tour 'Tracking and Tracing in the Theatre' is an exciting journey of discovery through the theatre's treasure chambers for children aged 4 to 6 and 6 to 12. You can choose between an opera or a ballet version.
There's always lots to do at Dutch National Opera & Ballet. Today, in all the commotion, an important prop has gone missing! With a map full of clues, an adventurous quest is held through the theatre. To complete the hunt, you'll also have to sing or dance!

Duration: approximately 90 minutes
Cost: € 200 (weekdays) / € 275 (weekends) per group of max. 15 children
