Peter van der Sluis

Lighting designer

Peter van der Sluis started his career in theatre in 1981, providing the lighting for various companies. He works in opera, dance, theatre, music theatre and site-specific theatre. Peter van der Sluis came to work for Dutch National Opera & Ballet in 1990. Over the years, he has collaborated with numerous lighting designers and stage directors. He was responsible for implementing lighting designs by Jean Kalman (Wagner Dream, Madrigalen, Marco Polo, Guillaume Tell and The Shell Trial), Urs Schönebaum (Aus Licht), Felice Ross (Mariavespers) and Barbora Horáková (Missa in tempore belli), among others. For Dutch National Ballet, he produced lighting designs for the New Moves programme. He has also been involved in various educational productions and projects at Dutch National Opera & Ballet. Furthermore, Peter van der Sluis was in charge of implementing various DNO productions abroad, including Wagner Dream at Les Théâtres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Michel van der Aa’s After Life at Opéra National de Lyon.

Peter van der Sluis is responsible for the lighting design of Dido and Aeneas in concert, performed from 25 April to 6 May 2025 at Dutch National Opera & Ballet and in Arnhem, Enschede and Heerlen.
