Lisenka Heijboer Castañón
Stage direction & co-creation
The work of Dutch-Peruvian director Lisenka Heijboer Castañón is characterised by her love for music as a tool for storytelling, combined with a strong connection to movement theatre.
She started her career as assistant director, and later co-director, with Lotte de Beer. She also assisted Pierre Audi, Krzysztof Warlikowski, Monique Wagemakers, Laurent Pelly and Zack Winokur.
In 2019, she created a concert staging of Parsifal with the Bochumer Symphoniker, directed the International Young Patrons Gala at Dutch National Opera & Ballet together with Peter Leung and with her company Operafront she created VROUWENSTEMMEN, a new opera for the Grachtenfestival, reflecting on 100 years of women's suffrage in the Netherlands. She spent the 2019-2020 season as the directing fellow at the vocal arts department of the Juilliard School in New York.
