Operaflirt XL: Die Zauberflöte
On 4 September, Dutch National Opera is presenting Operaflirt XL: Die Zauberflöte. This festive kick-off to the opera season is only for young people aged between 16 and 35!
At Operaflirt XL, you will become acquainted with Die Zauberflöte, the well-known opera classic by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. There is an introduction to the opera before the performance.
Tickets for this evening are priced at €17.50 to €25 (usually priced at €22 to €165). An age check will be carried out at the entrance.
Ticket sales commence on 5 June 2018.
Die Zauberflöte is one of the most popular operas in the world. In his last opera, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart combined extremely diverse elements. It is precisely this combination of things that do not seem to fit together that makes Die Zauberflöte just as fresh and topical today as it was at its world premiere in 1791.
Seriousness alternates seamlessly with cheerfulness. Mozart blends philosophical ideas with a mysterious world, in which fantastic animals and magical musical instruments appear. Young people play a very important role in this opera. They are the ones who leave the old rules behind them, so a new era can begin.

ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
Die Zauberflöte is a magical performance. Director Simon McBurney is expert at creating an amazing dream world with simple means. Although we see how everything works, we are still caught up in the irresistible magic: a platform is transformed into a flying carpet, three drawings of boys become real and empty bottles turn into a glockenspiel.
A free introduction is given before the opera. It tells you more about the story, the music and the themes of Die Zauberflöte. The introduction starts in the Odeonzaal 45 minutes before curtain-up, and is given by My Muse & Me, the youth label of Dutch National Opera & Ballet.
