Marcel Sijm (concept and director) creates opera in all its various forms and does not shy away from interaction between different styles and performers. Besides the Baroque, classical and Romantic opera repertoire, he has a penchant for contemporary works, preferably in the Dutch language. As the artistic director of Orkest MaxTak, he has staged many youth productions. His experience in cabaret, jazz and light music allows him to create customised productions for a differentiated audience, in collaboration with librettists and composers. In 2016, Marcel Sijm created Aan het Einde van de Dag, an opera by Wagemans inspired by The Dresser; Bewogen Bewegen, the opening performance of the Tinguely exhibition in the Stedelijk Museum; and Void Space, a participation project with senior citizens from Amsterdam (Zout, Stedelijk Museum, Dutch National Opera), Spinvis (pop) and Sanne Wallis de Vries (stand-up).

DNO productions: Legende, Kopernikus, Ramble to Reims
