Peter Sellars


PETER SELLARS is known for his innovative interpretation of classical works from Western and non-Western cultures.

The American director has directed the Boston Shakespeare Company, the American National Festival, the Los Angeles Festival, the Adelaide Festival, the Venice Biennale International Festival of Theatre and the Viennese New Crowned Hope. He has also guested with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, the Opéra national de Paris, the San Francisco Opera, Santa Fe Opera and the festivals at Glyndebourne and Salzburg. Peter Sellars began collaborating with Kaija Saariaho in 2000, on the opera L’amour de loin. He has also worked with John Adams on his Nixon in China, The Death of Klinghoffer, El Niño, Doctor Atomic, A Flowering Tree and The Gospel According to the Other Mary. Peter Sellars has been awarded the Erasmus Prize for his contribution to European culture and the Polar Music Prize. He is a lecturer in ‘World Arts and Cultures’ at the University of California in Los Angeles.
