Masks and costumes

Carmen Schabracq is an artist working in different media, including sculptural installations, painting, performances, costumes and masks. She studied Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, after spending a year studying painting at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Rome. She later obtained a Master's degree in theatre costume design at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In season 2017-18 she received the 'new makers grant' from the Fonds Podiumkunsten NL, with which she made two location performances in Zeeland. Previously she was artist in residence at Casa Lü in Mexico City, Opium Atelier - Radio 4, Vincent van Gogh Huis, ARV.I in Bulgaria, and Kunsthuis SYB. She has worked with theatre companies such as Dood Paard, Likeminds, Rosa Ensemble, Zeeland Nazomer Festival, Zuidpool and previously collaborated with Lisenka Heijboer Castañón for the opera Vrouwenstemmen. Carmen's work can be seen now and in the coming year in exhibitions at the Stedelijk Museum Breda, Galerie Fleur and Wouter, CBK Zuidoost, Kunsthuis SYB, Factor-IJ and Outsider Land.
