Sam Carl

Bass-baritone Sam Carl was a member of Dutch National Opera Studio from 2019 to 2021. In the 2022/23 season, he returned to Dutch National Opera as Der Holzhacker in Christof Loy's new production of Königskinder, under the musical direction of Marc Albrecht. Other recent performances include Nick Shadow in The Rake's Progress at Glyndebourne Festival Opera (conducted by Robin Ticciati), Stárek in Janáček's Jenůfa (Palau de les Arts in Valencia), Panthée in Les Troyens (Bayerische Staatsoper München) and Mephistopheles, Evil Spirit and Pater Profundus in Schumann's Szenen aus Goethes Faust at Opera Vlaanderen (conducted by Philippe Herreweghe). Future engagements include his debut in Montpellier in the Verdi Requiem and his debut at the Philharmonie Berlin as Levit in Handel’s Solomon with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester conducted by Robin Ticciati.
