Ryoko Kondo

Pianist

Ryoko Kondo, born in Kyoto, Japan, studied piano at the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo and the Utrecht Conservatory, where she was taught by, among others, Sumiko Nagaoka and Ton Hartsuiker. She also studied with Vitaly Margulis in Freiburg, Germany, took violin lessons with Victor Lieberman and Philip Hirschhorn, and received song accompaniment lessons from Udo Reinemann. Kondo began performing as a pianist with Dutch National Ballet in 1996. Since then, she has regularly performed recitals throughout the Netherlands, various European nations, and Japan.

Kondo has several awards to her name. In 1990, she won the third prize at the Eduard Flipse International Piano Competition in Rotterdam, and that same year, she received a Vriendenkrans, an honour bestowed annually until 2008 by the Vereniging Vrienden of the Concertgebouw to talented young musicians.
