AN EVENING FULL OF MAGIC
The International Young Patrons Gala is an unique evening filled with magic and performance – this is the only night of the year where opera and ballet share the same stage. Following the performance, the festive-high spirits will continue with several surprise performances. In short… this is an unforgettable Gala with an equally exciting afterparty. (Limited space for the afterparty: guestlist only. All patrons +1 are invited)
The performance programme given by Dutch National Ballet, Dutch National Opera and the Junior Company includes several highlights from the repertoire, alongside new work not yet shown.
The Dutch National Ballet’s Junior Company will dance Hans van Manen's ballet In the Future.
And of course, the programme would not be complete without an act from the audience favourite Swan Lake, performed by the Dutch National Ballet.
Dutch National Opera is delighted to present an upcoming talent, the soprano Aylin Sezer. She is accompanying a ‘new work’ by choreographer and Young Creative Associate Peter Leung for dancers from Dutch National Ballet (with costumes designed by David Laport), as well as singing an aria from La bohème. Soprano Lilian Farahani and baritone Michael Wilmering - both well-known names in the Netherlands - are singing a duet from Don Pasquale and the famous duet ‘Papageno and Papagena’ from Die Zauberflöte.
These performances are interspersed with special film excerpts, including interviews with choreographer Hans van Manen, director of Dutch National Ballet Ted Brandsen and director of Dutch National Opera Pierre Audi. The programme ends with a spectacular Ring-video with live special effects & music.
The evening is presented by Anna Drijver, the popular actress, model, writer and singer, who is a great lover of classical ballet. Monique Wagemakers, who has long been a leading opera director in the Netherlands and much further afield, has directed the whole varied programme.
The musical accompaniment is provided by the Dutch Ballet Orchestra. Conductor ballet will be Matthew Rowe and opera Aldert Vermeulen.
Multi-talent Anna will be the host of the International Young Patrons Gala. She already enjoys great fame with the Dutch audience, amongst others due to her leading role in the film Bride Flight.

Dutch Ballet Orchestra
Since its inception in 1965, the orchestra has been proud to accompany its partners, Dutch National Ballet and Nederlands Dans Theater. The working method is unique in the Netherlands. Dutch Ballet Orchestra, with Matthew Rowe as principal conductor, consists of a regular core of 45 musicians, supported where necessary by highly qualified guest performers. This gives the orchestra its unique character: flexible, dynamic and high-quality.
Dutch Ballet Orchestra combines music and dance into a magical experience: from classical ballet to modern dance, and from music education to talent development. The orchestra’s mission is to create an optimal synthesis between music and dance, in order to reach dance-lovers and ballet music enthusiasts, as well as children and youngsters.
The orchestra has received several international awards for its educational projects, including the Young Audiences Music Award in 2016 for Creatures, a collaborative project with dance company ISH.
