Recital's with Dutch singers

For the first time since the introduction of the coronavirus measures, performances for a live audience will take place at Dutch National Opera & Ballet. From Monday 22 June to Thursday 2 July, Dutch National Opera presents ZomerZang (Song in Summer), a recital series with Dutch opera singers in the main auditorium of Dutch National Opera & Ballet.

Programme

Every day another Dutch singer sings a carefully selected concert programme. 

Monday 22 june: Claron McFadden & Ernst Munnike

American-Dutch soprano Claron McFadden kicks off the recital series with songs from her native country, the United States. As a performer, Claron McFadden is widely praised for her versatility, which stretches from classical to contemporary and from grand opera productions to intimate musical theatre.

 

Tuesday 23 June: Marcel Beekman & Ernst Munnike

Dutch tenor Marcel Beekman sings a programme of German and French songs by Schumann, Fauré, Debussy and Liszt. Beekman is a frequent guest at Dutch National Opera and over the years has sung various roles in our main-stage productions (including SalomeThe GamblerLegendeBenvenuto Cellini and Wozzeck). 

 

Wednesday 23 June: Helena Rasker & Jan-Paul Grijpink

Contalto Helena Rasker presents a recital with songs by, among others, Debussy, Schumann and Mahler. With her impressive, deep voice, the Dutch singer has already shone on the stage of Dutch National Opera several times (including Waiting for Miss MonroeAdam in ballingschapGuillaume TellLuluDie Zauberflöte).

 

Thursday 25 June: Peter Gijsbertsen & Peter Lockwood

Dutch tenor Peter Gijsbertsen, winner of the prestigious Dutch Music Prize in 2018, will present a varied German-language programme with Beethoven, Clara Schumann, Richard Strauss and Léhar.

 

Friday 26 June: Thomas Oliemans, Ernst Munneke & Strijkkwartet

Dutch baritone Thomas Oliemans is not only accompanied on the piano, but also by a string quartet. The programme includes songs by Barber, Richard Strauss and Mahler. Oliemans regularly sings leading roles at Dutch National Opera and also contributed to the online OperaVision Summer Gala. 

 

Saturday 27 June: Karin Strobos & Ernst Munneke

Dutch mezzo-soprano Karin Strobos performs a programme of songs by no less than 10 different composers under the title 'Goethe's women'. The programme is directed by Klaus Bertisch. Karin Strobos has a special history with Dutch National Opera. In 2011 she made a brilliant debut with the company as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier.

 

Sunday 28 June: Michael Wilmering & Daan Boertien

Young Dutch baritone Michael Wilmering joins forces with Dutch pianist Daan Boertien. The programme includes songs by Beethoven, Monique Krüs, Ravel and Bolcom. At Dutch National Opera Michael Wilmering has previously sung in Il matrimonio segretoCaliban and Caruso a Cuba, among others.

 

Monday 29 June and tuesday 30 June: Dutch National Opera Studio

The young singers and pianists of Dutch National Opera Studio, DNO's young talent programme, have prepared two separate recital programmes. For the Handel programme, the Opera Studio is joined by an ensemble of the Dutch Chamber Orchestra on period instruments.

Wednesday 1 July: Maarten Engeltjes en Jan-Paul Grijpink

Dutch countertenor Maarten Engeltjes is known for his glowing renditions of both the contemporary and the baroque repertoire. His concert programme includes arias by Handel, the grand master of the baroque.

 

Thursday 2 July: Lenneke Ruiten & Thom Janssen

Soprano Lenneke Ruiten sings a programme with songs by Mozart, Liszt, Wolf and Schumann. The Dutch singer is at the forefront of international opera thanks to her impressive technical and dramatic skills. At Dutch National Opera she recently performed leading roles in Hänsel und Gretel, Die Entführung uit dem Serail and Das Floß der Medusa, among others.
