Jan Spunda

Grand sujet

Jan Spunda was born in Ostrava in the Czech Republic. From 2009 to 2014, he studied at the Janáček Conservatory in Ostrava. After this, he left for London to continue his ballet training at the English National Ballet School, under the direction of artistic director Samira Saidi.   

 After graduating in 2017, Jan began his professional dance career with the Bayerisches Staatsballett, where he danced for two seasons until joining the corps de ballet of Dutch National Ballet in August 2019. He was promoted to coryphée in 2021 and to grand sujet in 2022.  

 Jan won several awards. For example, he won third prize at the Tallinn International Ballet Competition in 2014, as well as at the finals of the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) in New York. During the latter competition, he was awarded the Outstanding Artistry Award from the British magazine Dance Europe
