Dutch National Ballet presents
From Swan lake to a world premiere
Colours of Ballet offers a vivid spectrum of the ballet repertoire, from classics to contemporary new works. The programme’s common denominator? All the choreographies are Dutch-grown and will be performed by the Junior Company’s budding talent.

Back in 2013, Dutch National Ballet could not have imagined that the newly-formed Junior Company would turn out to be such an overwhelming success. Dance talent from all over the world jostles to get a place in the ensemble. More than one-third of the Dutch National Ballet dancers — even including six soloists — started their career in the Junior Company. Meet the stars of the future.
‘I’m incredibly proud of what the Junior Company has achieved in such a short space of time. Of the dancers from recent years, 26 have gone on to become members of Dutch National Ballet and most have danced a solo role. All that young talent gives an enormous boost to the company as a whole.’
De 'Pas de Six' from Rudi van Dantzig’s acclaimed version of Swan Lake – will be danced as always flawlessly and with strong charisma. Wubkje Kuindersma, a still young star in the Dutch dance firmament, will have a European premiere with her new creation Architecture of Hope. For this co-production with West Australian Ballet, she will be inspired by ‘Symphony no. 1: Oceans’ by the Italian composer Ezio Bosso.
Young choreographic talent
The Junior Company also inspires and develops young choreographers. In Colours of Ballet they present new works by Milena Sidorova and Sedrig Verwoert. Sidorova has danced with Dutch National Ballet since 2005 and regularly produces choreographies for her colleagues and for other companies. She has been showered with prizes. Sedrig Verwoert makes his debut at Dutch National Ballet. In 2019 the Surinam-Dutch dancer won the BNG Dance Award. The collaboration between a young top singer and young top dancers will be the starting point for a third world premiere of choreographer and former Dutch National Ballet dancer Marta Reig Torres. For the first time a singer from The Dutch National Opera Studio, the counterpart of the Junior Company, will also go on tour.
