Getting There

Dutch National Opera & Ballet is located between Amstel and Waterlooplein, and can be reached easily by public transport, car or bike.

Public transport

Dutch National Opera & Ballet, at Amstel 3, is easily reached by public transport. The metro from either Amsterdam Central Station or Amsterdam Amstel Station takes just a few minutes to get to Waterlooplein station (exit Stadhuis/Muziektheater). Tram lines 9 and 14 (from Amsterdam Central Station) stop right in front of the door, at the stop called Waterlooplein.

From 3 October to 3 January, the Stadhuis and Blauwbrug entrances of metro station Waterlooplein, most near to our theatre will be closed. The entrance Hortusplantsoen, 300 metres away, is open, but there is no lift! Nieuwmarkt station, 400 metres away, is open and does have a lift (exit Nieuwe Hoogstraat is closest to Dutch National Opera & Ballet).
From 4 March to 11 April 2017 the metro station Waterlooplein will be closed completely in the evening from 20.30You will then be able to get on and off the trains at the metro stations Weesperzijde or Nieuwmarkt.

There is a taxi rank next to Dutch National Opera & Ballet (on the corner of Waterlooplein) and another at Rembrandtplein (three minutes’ walk away). You can call TaxiCentrale Amsterdam for a taxi on 020 77 7777.

From the Ring A10, take exit S-112 or S-116, in the direction of ‘Centrum’ (city centre). Follow the signs marked ‘P Muziektheater’, which will bring you to the car park underneath the theatre building.

There is limited parking in the direct vicinity of Dutch National Opera & Ballet, especially in the evening. Looking for on-street parking can be time-consuming. Please remember that latecomers cannot be admitted to the auditorium once the performance has started.

The underground car park ‘Stadhuis-Muziektheater’, underneath National Opera & Ballet, is used by the general public as well as by private parking-spot owners. It is not exclusively for the use of theatre patrons on performance evenings and can therefore often be very busy. We advise latecomers to avoid using this car park.

P+R locations
An alternative, if you are travelling by car, is to make use of one of the eight P+R (Park+Ride) locations on the outskirts of the city, at the motorways A10, A9 and A2. You can park your car here for €8 per day, including free public transport (bus, tram or train) for up to four passengers, to Dutch National Opera & Ballet.
