Damiano Michieletto (director) made his opera debut at the Wexford Festival with Weinberger’s Svanda dudák. The Italian theatre and opera director studied directing in Milan and literature in Venice. He designed several children’s education programmes for the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi. Michieletto has worked on productions for major opera houses, such as La Fenice, Theater an der Wien, Opéra National de Paris, Komische Oper Berlin, La Scala Milano and the opera houses of Zürich, Turin, Copenhagen and Naples. He directed various productions for the Salzburg Festival, and has close ties as a theatre director with the Piccolo Teatro in Milan. His recent opera productions include Samson et Dalila (Opéra National de Paris), Aquagranda (La Fenice), Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci (Opera Australia), Falstaff (Teatro alla Scala), Lucia di Lammermoor (Opernhaus Zürich), Il viaggio a Reims (Royal Danish Opera), Die Zauberflöte and Idomeneo re di Creta (Opera di Firenze).
