Dutch National Ballet at the Dutch Dance Festival 2016
Once again, Dutch National Ballet is a guest at the Dutch Dance Festival, which takes place every year in Maastricht. This year, the festival is taking place from Friday 7 to Sunday 9 October 2016.
At the Dutch Dance Celebration on Saturday evening, Giovanni Princic will be dancing Ballet 101, choreographed by Eric Gauthier.
At the French Académie Royale de Danse of the seventeenth century, King Louis XIV took the initiative of setting the basic positions of classical ballet, which are still taught all over the world today. In Ballet 101, Canadian choreographer Eric Gauthier takes these basic positions as his starting point for a crash course in classical ballet. In the opening section, he shows them in their usual order. He then proceeds to mix them all up wittily, with a surprising ending. But comedy aside, Ballet 101 is also a male solo with some very difficult technical challenges.
