REINBERT DE LEEUW (musical director) studied piano and music theory at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and then went on to study composition with Kees van Baaren at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He has been the conductor of ASKO|Schönberg since its foundation in 1974.

REINBERT DE LEEUW (musical director) studied piano and music theory at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, and then went on to study composition with Kees van Baaren at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. He has been the conductor of ASKO|Schönberg since its foundation in 1974. He also regularly conducts other chamber music ensembles and leading Dutch orchestras. Reinbert de Leeuw has toured Europe, the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia, and performed at festivals in Berlin, Edinburgh, Aldeburgh, Paris, Tokyo and Warsaw. He was involved in organising the ‘Contemporaries’ series at the Concertgebouw and was co-founder and artistic director of the Netherlands Youth Orchestra’s Summer Academy. In 1994, Utrecht University awarded him an honorary doctorate. Reinbert de Leeuw is also a professor at Leiden University. In 2008, on the occasion of his 70th birthday, he was made a Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
