Ms. and Mr. Expressivity Award for Anna and Remi at Dance Open
On 25 April, principals Anna Tsygankova and Remi Wörtmeyer both received awards at the twenty-fifth edition of the Dance Open Festival in St Petersburg. Anna won the Ms. Expressivity Award and Remi Wörtmeyer the Mr. Expressivity Award. An international jury awarded Anna Tsygankova the prize for her performance of a pas de deux from Mata Hari, by Ted Brandsen, artistic director of Dutch National Ballet. Tsygankova danced the pas de deux with Artur Shesterikov, principal with Dutch National Ballet. Remi Wörtmeyer won his award for his performance of a solo from Five Tangos, by Hans van Manen.
The awards were presented at the Gala that traditionally closes the Dance Open Festival. The award winners received a crystal replica of an impression of the foot of the famous ballerina Anna Pavlova, cast in bronze in 1913. Awards were presented in seven different categories to the most virtuoso and expressive dancers performing in the Gala.
Many international companies performed at the Gala, including the Bolshoi Ballet and the Mariinsky Ballet. Dutch National Ballet was represented strongly by performances from principals Anna Tsygankova, Artur Shesterikov, Remi Wörtmeyer and Vito Mazzeo. Matthew Golding, principal with The Royal Ballet and regular guest artist with Dutch National Ballet, won the Mr. Virtuoso Award.
