Romy Roelofsen

Stage direction, concept and co-adaptation

Romy Roelofsen graduated as a Theatrical Performer from the Toneelacademie Maastricht in 2007. She works as an actor and director and founded the music theatre platform Het Geluid Maastricht with her brother Gable in 2007. For their direction of Life Is Too Good To Be True, they won the Amsterdam Fringe Festival Award in 2010. For the Nederlandse Reisopera, they directed the music theatre performances Wesendonck Lieder Heute (2013) and Headphone Oratorium (2014). Romy co-directed Bizet’s and Brooks's La tragédie de Carmen as well as Berlioz's Les Nuits d'été at the Nederlandse Reisopera and directed productions of Schoenberg's Erwartung and Messiaen's Harawi at the Euregional Opera and Music Theatre Festival. Het Geluid co-produced with companies such as Veenfabriek, Muziektheater Transparant, Asko|Schönberg Ensemble, Amsterdams Andalusisch Orkest, Musikteatertage Wien, Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart, Neukolner Oper and Bergen Nasjionale Opera. Het Geluid developed innovative musical theatre around technology and social issues for the Nederlandse Reisopera, De Munt in Brussels and the Münchner Musik Biennale, among others, and they received both the Berliner Opernpreis and the Cultuurfonds inspiratieprijs for their work. Their VR opera Weltatem won three Dutch Game awards.
