See a new generation of artists make their first foray into the world of opera

Students from the Academy of Theatre and Dance, the University of Amsterdam, and from the conservatoires in Amsterdam, The Hague and Rotterdam work together in four teams that each create an entirely new short opera. The operas will be performed in sequence, in the following order: Goldilocks in Amsterdam – Need for [Sing] – Pull up if i pull uP – brb <3.

Amsterdam! What an incredible place to call home. With its breathtaking architecture, vibrant tulips, and ample study and social opportunities, it is a fantastic environment for personal development. A city of opportunities. A wonderful place. It’s just a pity you can’t live in it.

For you and me, and for Goldilocks, and for the Three Bears: it is a pity for all of us. Goldilocks in Amsterdam draws inspiration from the classic children’s tale. It deconstructs its themes against the backdrop of the reality of Amsterdam: a reality in which finding a place to live has become ‘an absolute honour’ and ‘an incredible opportunity.’ This is the story of a girl who was tempted by the vision of a new life, and the housing crisis that stands in the way of her dreams…

A kitchen begins to twist as the outside makes its way in - or was it always there? Vibrating strangely in spaces in-between, something familiar yet unknown begins to take shape. Pull up if i pull uP presses hard against the boundaries of self-containment, hoping that, in the cracks that emerge, new ways of being together can be glimpsed.
